Garmin has refreshed its already strong range of specialist running watches by adding the Forerunner 45, 45S, 245, 245 Music and the 945. What do all these new models mean for runners?
The Garmin Forerunner 45, and its smaller cousin the Forerunner 45S, are perfect fits for budget-conscious runners, or beginners to the sport. They deliver a basic but efficient assortment of features. Examples of such features include heart rate monitoring and GPS and provide feedback on pace, distance, intervals and more. Garmin's new Coach plans are also supported, making these budget models even better value for money.
The Forerunner 245, and the Forerunner 245 Music which gives stores up to 500 songs, is an update on the Forerunner 235 and a considerably faster one. Speedier performance is aligned with new support for stress and sleep tracking, tracking of a wider range of sports, and updated user interface. The 245 also has a pulse oximeter sensor, giving you more fitness data.
Finally, the flagship of the Forerunner series: the Garmin Forerunner 945. This stellar model adds a pulse oximeter to measure oxygen absorption and Garmin Pay for contactless purchases. Furthermore, there are full-colour maps to aid navigation while you're running on, or off, the beaten track. Up to 1,000 songs can be stored locally. A new, smart tool analyses previous workout to act as an incentive to continually improve. Garmin says the 945 will give you up to two weeks of battery life in smartwatch mode, up to 36 hours in GPS mode, and up to 10 hours with both GPS and music active.
