Huawei Matepad Pro is a tablet that competes head-to-head with the iPad Pro in terms of hardware specs. However, it’s uncertain whether Huawei will sell this tablet locally in New Zealand.
Huawei's new tablet challenges both tablets as well as laptops. Let's have a closer look at how Huawei plans to challenge Apple's dominance in the tablet segment. Will it be able to take on the iPad Pro?
The 10.8-inch sized Huawei Matepad Pro offers 90% of screen area. The high screen-to-front area ratio is achieved by the thin 4.9 mm sides. Furthermore, Mated Pro lacks a sensor display and instead relies on a small hole for the 8 MP selfie camera. This design arrangement is becoming popular on smartphones. The rear camera sports 13 MP resolution.
Under the case, Huawei’s own lightning-fast Kirin 990 processor handles all operations. This is the same processor employed by Huawei Mate 30 Pro. There are two memory and storage:
- 6 GB memory and 128 GB storage
- 8 GB memory and 256 GB storage

This new tablet launches on the 12th of December in China. The price for the cheapest 128 GB storage Wifi model is CNY3,299, which converts to NZ$839 inclusive of GST.
Huawei will release a 5G-version in the first quarter of 2020.
Local availability?
American authorities has blacklisted Huawei, so it’s uncertain whether the Chinese company will sell the Matepad Pro directly to Kiwi consumers (possibly without Google services installed). Don’t despair though, as local retailers will parallel import the tablet into the country.
