The launch of the new OnePlus 5T phone is really close. The Chinese firm Oneplus keeps releasing not so subtle teasers in order to stir up interest for its soon-to-be-released phones.
The current OnePlus 5 flagship phone was released in June this year, which is less than five months ago. Strangely enough, Oneplus has in fact already stopped online sales of the device due to the launch of 5T. What do we know about OnePlus 5T so far?
Headphone jack
The released images clearly show that OnePlus will keep the 3.5 mm headphone jack despite more and more phone vendors dropping it. The CEO Pete Lau explains that 70% of the OnePlus community wants to keep the headphone jack. In addition, it’s difficult to find high-quality earbuds under $200, which is an issue for OnePlus’ cost-conscious community.
Hardware
The hardware specs are top notch: a Snapdragon 835 processor, 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM memory.
Screen
The new phone will be rather wide and sports a 6-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,160 pixels. The screen has an 18:9 aspect ratio, which implies that the phone is twice as tall as it is wide.
The camera resolution is high on both the rear and the front sides. The rear camera has a resolution of 20 MP and the front one 16 MP. It’s interesting to note that the fingerprint sensor has moved from the front side on OnePlus 5 to the rear side on 5T.
Pricing & availability
A likely launch date is Thursday the 16th of November. Oneplus thereby sticks to last year’s release schedule of OnePlus 3 in June and the T-version OnePlus 3T in November.
We expect the price to be US$479 based on model 5’s price, which converts to NZ$790 inclusive of GST.
