With the Sony Alpha A7R IV, Sony adds to its already impressive range of full-frame cameras boasting sharp stills, vivid video, enhanced resolution, and a wide range of features and functions.

The fourth edition of the A7R range includes an updated 61 MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor and improved BIONZ X image processor. Together the two sensors deliver even better imaging results. For example, there's a noticeable improvement in smoothness, a 15-stop dynamic range, and, crucially, more speed; up to 10 fps shooting is now possible, along with the ability to record UHD 4K30 video, both with support for Real-time Eye AF and Tracking AF technologies.

While the imaging in the Sony Alpha a7R IV goes up a level, this model also has an upgraded physical design. The weather sealing makes the camera better suited to taking shots in harsh weather conditions. The OLED electronic viewfinder has also received a boost; it’s now up to 5.76m-dot resolution for crystal clear viewing. The 3-inch rear tilting touchscreen LCD has a high 1.44m-dot resolution for crisp playback, live view shooting, and menu navigation.

The improvements don’t stop there! The dual SD card slots now offer faster performance. The inclusion of a USB Type-C port allows for tethering and quick in-camera battery charging. Additionally, built-in Bluetooth and both 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands afford wireless transferring and remote camera control from linked mobile devices. This camera presently retails at $6,098, which is $310 higher than the release price of the predecessor Alpha A7R III. Note that the latter now two years after launch costs around $3,740.
